The Beginning- On Thin Ice
After a hiatus from photography because of the craziness of life, I wanted to get back to doing what I love. Having moved to Nebraska, I’ve felt a bit uninspired. I didn’t know where to start. Nothing seemed interesting, and there didn’t seem to be any stories worth telling.
I love being outdoors and exercising, and on one of my long runs around a local lake, noticed some ice fishermen out on the ice. I’ve never been a fisherman myself, but was curious. I made up my mind that I would return later in the day and see if I could drum up the courage to talk to someone and ask if I could take their picture.
I came back that afternoon with a camera in my hand, and a resolve to push through my fears and approach a stranger. And I’m so glad I did. I met a very kind fisherman and his grandson who were patient enough to let me hang around for a bit, ask questions, and take a few pictures. I felt like I finally found something interesting to photograph, and left inspired that this could actually turn into something.
