On the Ice with the Leica Monochrom Typ 246
There’s just something about photographing ice fishing in black and white. I’ve always been drawn to black and white photography, so I decided to commit and purchase a monochrom camera. I purchased a Leica Monochrom Typ 246, which can ONLY take black and white photographs. The monochrom produces excellent black and white photographs, and I was blown away by the results. I went back out to the local lake, and took pictures of a gentleman ice fishing. The lake was recently stalked with trout, and he had almost caught the limit. I managed to get some great pictures of him drilling holes in the ice, setting up, and his catch so far.
The winter has always seemed like a bad time to photograph because of the lack of color, the high contrast, and all the plants being dead. But for some reason, the ice really comes alive in black and white.
